All course participants will receive handouts, an audio download of 24 guided meditations, certificate of attendance and 22 hours face to face training with MBCL mindfulness teacher, Teresa Lewis.
The course is delivered over 8 weeks with the option of attending a silent practice session to embed your practice.

Week One: The Three Emotional Regulation Systems
- Understand why we need compassion
- Learn about the evolution of our brain and our capacity to be compassionate
- Recognise how compassion can have a restorative effect by strengthening the soothing system
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: The Safe Place; The Breathing Space with Kindness)
Week Two: Stress Reactions And Self Compassion
- Understand why the fight, flight and freeze response is important to our survival
- Learn the importance of the tend and befriend response
- Learn how to develop self compassion and how we can use our imagination to aid this
- Explore the pitfalls and misunderstandings in the process of developing compassion including the ‘backdraft’ phenomenon
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: The Compassionate Companion; Compassionately Dealing With Resistance; The Breathing Space With Compassion; The Self Compassion Mantra)
Week Three: Inner Patterns
- Explore the inner bully and self-conscious emotions such as shyness, guilt and shame
- Investigate the inner patterns that dominate us and how we can recognise, name and compassionately deal with them
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: Compassionately Dealing With Desire; Kindness To Onself And A Benefactor)
Week Four: The Compassion Mode
- Explore the attributes and skills of compassion using the model ‘The Circle of Compassion’
- Understand how we can cultivate our inner helper
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: The Compassion Mode; Kindness For The Body; Kindness Meditation To A Good Friend; Kindness Meditation To A Neutral Person)
Week Five: Self And Others
- Explore the relational aspects of compassion practice
- Practice compassionate letter writing as a tool to develop compassion for oneself
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: Kindness To A Difficult Person or Inner Difficulty; Compassionate Breathing)
Week Six: Happiness For All
- Explore the theme of common humanity and how this is linked to ‘The Four Friends for Life’
- Discover what contributes to happiness and learn exercises for sustainable happiness
- Practice guided meditation in a small group setting (meditations may include: Savouring And Revisiting The Good; Kindness meditation To All Beings)
Week Seven: Silent Practice Session
- Optional silent practice session
Week Eight: Compassion In Daily Life
- Learn how we can practice kindness and compassion for different parts of ourselves
- Explore how to move from formal to informal compassion practices

Session Nine: The Healing Power Of Compassion
- Explore inner learning and next steps

Course dates and venue
All mindfulness courses are held at our training rooms at Lewis Psychology, Deansgate, 62-70 Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4TH.

Teresa Lewis is a Senior Accredited psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Snr. Accred). Qualified in 1995, Teresa has been providing counselling and psychotherapy treatment for 23 years. Teresa holds a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy and is a qualified EMDR practitioner having completed training accredited with EMDR Europe.
Teresa is a qualified adult educator and has lectured extensively in the fields of counselling, psychotherapy and mindfulness. She has completed the Breathworks three year mindfulness teacher training programme including their advanced teacher training retreat. More recently, Teresa has been inspired by the work of Fritz Koster and Erik van den Brink and the development of their Mindful Based Compassionate Living course (MBCL). Having personally trained with Fritz Koster and Erik van den Brink Teresa is one of the first trained UK based mindfulness teachers to offer the MBCL course.
Teresa has delivered mindfulness training to groups and senior individuals in a wide range of organisations including Ricoh, Assa Abloy, Wolverhampton Academy Trust and The Crown Prosecution Service. She has also trained NHS clinicians and other psychotherapists in mindfulness skills and runs courses for the general public.
Teresa meets the requirements of the Good Practice Guidance for Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses, which is published by the UK Network of Mindfulness Teacher Training Organisations.

This will be with our mindfulness teacher, Teresa Lewis, who will use this time to gain an understanding of how you could benefit from the Mindfulness course.
